THANK YOU TO OUR 2012 VOLUNTEERS
Socks For Seniors
A non-profit community service project to help senior citizens
keep
their feet warm this winter.

They're worth just a pair of socks, don't you think?
Each
year Socks for Seniors
hosts it's annual Sock Drive along with Community
Leaders and Volunteers. Families throughout the
United States became involved with the Socks for
Seniors project in 2002. Since that time the Socks
for Seniors sock drive has grown
tremendously and has become a nationwide network.
Community organizations across America are embracing
it by volunteering, sponsoring sock hops and
becoming involved in distributions. The Socks
for Seniors program is a
feel-good, low-cost Holiday project. A project that
an entire family - whole community or seniors
themselves can participate in.
The
holidays are a fun time of year with all the holiday
work parties, family gatherings, meetings with old
friends topped off with all the bells, whistles,
hustle and bustle of the season.
It's the friendliest and most giving time of year.
But,
for some it can also be a depressing time of year.
Our seniors can get lost in the shuffle.
Each
year, thousands of lonely and financially challenged
seniors struggle with the holiday blues. They dread
facing the holiday season alone - some being without
family or friends, some with the isolation of being
a widow or widower. Some seniors just being away
from children and grandchildren produces extreme
loneliness that's exaggerated by festivities of the
season.
We Need You!
Socks
For Seniors and it's volunteers have one priority
this Holiday Season and that is to bring holiday
cheer along with a pair of new socks to warm the
hearts and cover the cold feet of our elderly
seniors. The Socks for Seniors program benefits
those living alone and in nursing homes and yes even
those seniors that are homeless.
Help us this Holiday Season. Bring a Warm Smile and
Fuzzy Warm Pair of Socks to a lonely senior.
They're
worth just a pair of socks...Don't you think?

What kind of socks should you collect? C
Oh
no! Not the traditional grip slippers or the tube
socks!
The funnier, funkier holiday styles you can find.
Yes, we still can use traditional socks as well. We
tend to use the philosophy of the residents when
choosing the socks to purchase and the quote from 91
year old nursing home resident Emma Mae.
When
giving Emma Mae the choice of socks at a nursing
home distribution location she quickly choose the
bright colored, striped, individual toe socks and
immediately said "
"We're just old, not dead and we still have a
sense of humor" I want those!
From
that point forward Emma Mae's comments have been the
focal point for the socks that we choose to collect
for these seniors.
We
do also want and collect the traditional tube socks
for the seniors of the Homeless Shelter and area
Senior Shut-ins.
